Growing On Hydroponic Ideas

A plant growing in a medium of water instead of soil is something very unusual But now the trend of hydroponic growth is now become very popular around the people. In this hydroponic system of growth the plants need a solution which is rich in nutrients so soil is not required. Although in a few forms of system a liquid nutritional solution is used as a lifeless medium (which does not have nutritional value) like perlite or gravel.

A Brief History

Growing Plants using the hydroponic technique is not a new method it had started a long time back in the ancient times, specially the people of Babylonia and the Aztecs. The plants which would grow in water would get their nutritional content and mineral from the different sources. It was only after the 19th century that a additional liquid solution was added to water to supply the plants with nutrition and minerals so the plants could feed on them.

hydroponic A several hundred years back Sir Francis Bacon in 1626 published work of growing plants without the medium of soil. Later some researchers and scientist published their work after comparing the plants which are grown in distilled water with the plants which are grown using the nutritional solution which has the mineral content. And yes this “solution culture” became the new method to experiment the growth of the hydroponic plant and it is used till today.

Physiology Of A Plant

Many facts were bought out to the world about hydroponic gardening in 1800 such as these plants have an ability to absorb nutrients. After research it was discovered that it is not just the soil which is required for the growth of the plant but is the nutrients that it required. By using the solution culture the minerals and the nutrients are absorbed by the roots of the plant just as the soil would have.
The plants which are land based can be easily grown using the hydroponic technique and some might live more than others.

Several Aspects Of The Method

Hydroponic methods are of different types one is the “solution culture” method and the other one is the “medium culture” method. The medium culture involves using a type of a solid conduit such as perlite, sand and pea gravel these things have no nutritional value it is just a medium for the roots to pass through them. Whereas in the solution culture a liquid format is used having nutritional value and it requires types of containers according to what has to be grown.

A very important thing that has to be taken care of in hydroponic gardening is besides nutrients adequate amount of light has to be exposed to it. The plants may not live if natural sunlight or any artificial light is not supplied because the plant has to go through the natural photosynthesis and other cellular changes. This type of gardening is highly used in the places around the world were enough land is not available. A few enthusiastic gardeners have knowledge about the growth of this type of plant.
